Tell Us About the Cause of PK 661 Crash

I associated December 7 as the day when national elections were held in Pakistan in 1970 in which PPP and Awami League had land-slide victories in West and East Pakistan respectively. Unfortunately, another event has been added to this date in my memory. A PIA flight PK 661 flying from Chitral to Islamabad with 48 people on board crashed about 30 nautical miles from the Islamabad Airport near Havelian. All on board died in the crash.

Junaid Jamshed with his wife was on board the flight. The media caught on to his tragic death, and unfortunately, almost all the media attention has focused on JJ rather than on the crash. JJ’s death, like any death, is sad. But more important to find out is the cause of the accident?

This crash is preceded by the Air Blue July 28, 2010 Airbus 321 crash that flying from Karachi crashed into Margalla hills in Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board; and the Bhoja Airlines April 20, 2012 Airbus 737 crash  of flight from Karachi coming down in bad weather near Islamabad Airport. All 130 people on board died.

What caused the above two major crashes in the recent history? Have the so-called investigative reports been made public? Has action been taken against the relevant personnel?

If the crashes were caused by pilot errors, then what steps have been taken to improve the quality of training?

There is silence.

The PM held a meeting a day after the crash: we are used to such cosmetic gestures. It is not the job of the PM to hold such meetings; if need be, he should have held it prior to the crash to prevent the tragic crashes. The relevant persons should be holding such meetings.

As far as I know, PIA comes under the Defense Minister. He is conspicuous by his absence. He does not miss a chance to be on TV, particularly when it comes to defending the PM but is no where to be seen now.

All concerned, including the media, the parliamentarians, and the general ppublic should ask the government to make the report of investigation into the PK 661 crash public; and to take action against the responsible individuals.
